Public Yoga

I had heard that there were yoga classes offered around town that you are only required to make a donation to attend... sound great because yoga classes can get really expensive.  Although you can practice at home..I have found that a class keeps you on track, I work harder in a class (cut myself too much slack when no one is looking) So, I started to search around, found Bird Rock Yoga http://birdrockyoga.com/ and yes they offer a Sunday morning donation only class on the beach at Law St in PB.

So Sunday morning I drove Gabe to work and headed down to Law to do this class.  I almost chickened out at least 5 times, got there way too early which gave me time to second guess my decision.  Long story short, it was a great class!  almost 1 1/2 hours long... I thought yoga in public would bother me but in truth I really did not notice the people standing around watching.  It was a different style then I had done before  Vinyasa Flow.  So basicly the teacher sets up a sequence of poses, the first time you go through each pose and hold for 5 -8 breaths. then you flow through these poses (one breath per pose) 3x's.  I could not make it through each 3x's but still did good.

I plan on going back next week, maybe this will be my Sunday morning worship

Oh on another note..thanks to my friend JR for reminding me of the blog below...makes me snort to read it

Yoga Journey

So I started practicing Yoga about two months ago, I have "done" yoga before with a dvd but always got board and stopped.  So anyway, they started offering it two days a week at my work..and I decided to check it out..if only for the nap you get to take at the end. (Savasana) I love to nap :-)  Surprise I LOVE it..the few moments of peace you feel at the end are worth all the physical work done during class...

A few things I have learned in this early part of my journey

1. "Doing" yoga is very different from "practicing" yoga, you never master yoga...your whole life you only practice.  Love that..no pressure, no test at the end.

2. I am allot stronger then I thought...the progress seems slow..but there is progress

3. Yoga is the balance between your mind and your body, if you think about only your practice while you are in your practice you have a much better experience.

Favorite Yoga quote of the week...

"It's not the asanas that will change your life. It's the courage you bring to your practice that will change your life."
Most humbling yoga experience....
Falling on my face (literally, rug burn to prove it) while trying "crow".  But I tried it..and I almost got it.  :-)
